Background Checks

On Chore Match, if you check the option, I certify I have a Background Check, then you must be prepared to show that to potential employers. Since you own the background check, you have the right to hide your social security number and other private information on it before you present it to a potential employer. If you refuse to show the Background Check that you certify that you have, your profile will be removed from the site, and you will be banned from joining again.

Service Providers with a Background Check will have the shield icon displayed next to their name.

What is a background check?

Depending on the type of Background Check you order, the items reveled can include: criminal records, education, employment history, credit history, motor vehicle and license records, and/or civil records.

The process may sound intense, but the government offers some protections in terms of what type of information is contained in a background check.

The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) provides national standards for employment screenings. According to the FCRA, this information will not be included:

After 10 years – Civil judgments, Bankruptcies.
After 7 years – Civil suits, arrest records, Paid tax liens, accounts placed for collection, any other negative information (except criminal convictions) after seven years.

Understanding Background Checks

If a Service Provider at Chore Match has the Background Check icon, it is solely the responsibility of the Service Seeker to review the background check for its authenticity. Here is a general guide to the types of Background Checks and what they signify. Please be aware of the date of the Background check. Also, if it is very old, then it may not be relevant to the current situation. Be sure to hide your Social Security number if you do not want to share it with your potential employer.

Below is a list of the different kinds of background checks and what you can expect to get from each.

You can run a Basic Employer Background Check on yourself – ranging in price around $20-30 for a one-time background check. You can visit one of these websites to order and print out a Background Check on yourself. Be sure to hide (mark out with a black magic marker) the Personal Information you do not want to display to others. The Employee Background Check usually provides arrest records or lack thereof and other important information for potential employers. It is completely your choice as what information you wish to share with your potential employers. We do not endorse the following companies or their products below. They were found in an online search, which you can also run yourself and find similar results.

Employee and Criminal Background Checks

Background checks reveal the records from county, state, and/or federal records. Criminal records from any of those sources will contain the following if applicable:

  • Arrests
  • Convictions of felonies and misdemeanors
  • Court records judgements, dockets, etc.
  • Warrants
  • Sex offenses
  • Incarceration records

County background checks will only contain records of arrests and convictions within the county they are drawn on.

State background checks are different for every state and may vary. Some states will have all the county records in their databases. State Background checks also include records of all crimes prosecuted at a state level (meaning crimes that are illegal across all counties).

There is not a National criminal database available to the public, so a National Background check by necessity will search each state’s online database. Four States do not have electronic databases: Delaware, Massachusetts, South Dakota, and Wyoming.
